I've recently had the opportunity to work on some exciting projects with the talented Ziyon from Liquideep and this post is about one of those projects.
Ziyon is currently working on the release of his solo album entitled "Audio Alchemy" and he came to me to create the images for the campaign. When he first told me that the concept I had to play with was alchemy, I already knew I had something awesome to work around!
The first idea that popped into my head was the process of alchemy, converting base metals into gold. If I could portray something turning to gold and make it look bad-ass too, that would be perfect. A few concepts were thrown around and they all involved getting messy. For conceptual shoots I usually draw up some sketches to pass my vision on to the client. Another thing I do is shoot multiple variations of the same concept and see what works best at the end.
I thought of throwing flour at Ziyon to create an intense atmosphere and with the help of a little post-processing, he would actually be the one turning to gold. I didn't even have to convince the dude, he was an awesome sport from the inception of the idea.
We organised some things, bought a couple boxes of corn starch, some plastic sheeting and then spent the afternoon making a big old mess. It was totally worth it, I got some fantastic images from the shoot.
Some technical stuff for the final image...

I've made a short little behind the scenes video for you to take a look at and see how we did it.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
